At four years old, August:
Weighs/measures: 38 lbs, 41 inches (3ft 5in)
Loves:
-Fruit yogurt, pizza, ice cream, string cheese, mac & cheese (although he’s picky about this one), cheese in general—basically he would live on dairy products if we let him.
-Listening to stories: mama/dada reading, Stories Podcast, TumbleBooks. August has recently gotten into chapter books, thanks to a few good ones aimed towards younger kids the librarian included in our “curbside bundle”. We recently read The Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl (we read it like 4 times in a row upon August’s request) and The Mouse and the Motorcycle. It’s so fun for me to revisit some of these stories and I dream about the day when I can introduce them to Harry Potter.
-Being outside! When the weather isn’t too extreme, that’s where you can find him: riding bikes or scooters, playing in the dirt, and following Scarlett on her wild adventures.
-Bandaids (if Scarlett needs one, he automatically has to also have one)
-Kickaroos soccer at Vetta—the season ended but it was a nice active activity to have during the colder months
-Wild Kratts and anything involving wild animals
-Weekends because he gets to watch tv and often gets to eat pizza for dinner
-Just started ninja class and he LOVES it so far—after taking Scarlett to gymnastics all year, he’s so excited to have his own thing.
-Swimming lessons: both kiddos have enjoyed swimming so much better this time around since they’re in separate classes with kids their own age
-His sissy—they are the GREATEST of friends and the worst of enemies at times, but the friend part definitely outweighs the other
-Sending Dada off in the morning and greeting him when he comes back home
-Helping cook
-Playing with other kids—however he seems to prefer older kids probably because he’s used to playing with an older kid every day:)
Dislikes:
-Waiting for something he wants NOW “I WANT ___” (strong emphasis on “want”) is one of his favorite phrases
-Anything that requires patience
-When the answer to “what can we have for dinner?” isn’t pizza
-Not getting his way (see above)
-A bit nervous around big dogs
-When Buddy gags (or actually throws up)
-Helping clean up his messes
August Lately:
-Rides bike without training wheels
-Can write his name!
-Can count to 50
-Can “read” simple, predictive books and can understand and talk about books far above his level
-Has gotten so much better at walking longer distances thanks to our homeschool hiking groups
-Very defiant and hard to discipline at times because he will bang on the door or throw things when you try to put him in time out and will sometimes hit/pinch etc when you try to talk him through it—he eventually calms down but it’s been a tough season for him the past few months
-Is starting baseball this spring! He was supposed to have played by now but the last three weeks have been rainouts and stomach bugs🤪
-Comes to sleep with mama and dada halfway through the night—he used to wait until early morning but it has crept earlier and earlier the past few months.
-Still naps every day for 1.5 hours or so
-Wakes us up by yelling for fruit yogurt most mornings:) However, if he wakes up too early he’s usually good about looking at a book or watching the timer on mama’s phone until it’s time to get up.
-Is still a sweet cuddly boy at heart who requires a lot of love each day—and I’m more than happy to supply it:)
August highlights from the last several months:
Oh, how we love our great big four year old boy!
