Scarlett Rose is 5 years old! A whole hand!
At 5 years, Scarlett:
Measures: 3 ft 9 in (45 inches)—the same height Dada was when he was 6 years old!
Loves:
- Bear (still going strong!—he actually got some new fluff (and a heart!) put in his tummy the other day, so he’s looking good for how loved on he is)
- Books—her and August could sit and listen to books all day if I let them
- Imaginative play—will play in her own little world at times and it’s just the sweetest thing
- Taking mama’s phone without asking and taking pictures and making play by play videos of what’s happening around her at home
- Foods: chicken/tomato/spinach pasta, breakfast foods, PBJ, berries, veggies
- Riding her bike
- Rocks
- Digging and helping with gardening
- Water play—especially going to the creek because rocks + water is her favorite—she broke into a happy dance last time we went:)
- Helping with the chicks—especially Bally her favorite
- Doing activities
- Taking showers in the big shower
- Art—drawing, painting, etc.
- Her friend Avery
- Silly Uncle Matt and family
- Watching cartoons—especially with August
- Going 💩 with August
- Swimming lessons—the one thing she has missed the most during quarantine
Dislikes:
- When August doesn’t want to play with her
- When August lashes back at her pushing his buttons
- Staying in her room during nap/bedtime
- Staying in her seat while eating
- Pizza (according to her but will eat it sometimes)
- When August is getting attention and not her—often hard to separate them because she always wants to know what he’s doing
Scarlett Lately:
- Has a wonderful, unique sense of humor—always making us laugh (even when we’re trying not to;)
- Knows how to write all her letters and numbers (some numbers are still backwards at times) and still working on some of the lowercase letters
- Can read simple books, but hasn’t been interested lately so we haven’t been doing it. Has great reading comprehension and loves to talk about and answer/ask questions about the story
- Has been acting more mature lately—much fewer tantrums and just generally more agreeable (still doesn’t like listening though;)
- Going along with the above, it is so fun/interesting having conversations with her and hearing her perspectives/view of her big little world
- Still wild and crazy energy—I don’t see that decreasing anytime soon
- Only takes a short nap most days (maybe 30 minutes?) and some days not at all—she is aware that she doesn’t have to sleep but needs to play quietly in her room if she’s not sleepy
- Is a great big sissy to August (even though she can be bossy at times), she is so great at helping him with things, explaining things and trying to teach him when he doesn’t understand, and including him in whatever she’s up to. If August gets hurt, she tries to mother him (she also sometimes thinks she’s in charge of him;)
- Has been a trooper during quarantine and hasn’t really complained about not being able to go anywhere—swimming lessons is the main thing she has said she misses as she was finally swimming on her own and really made huge progress before lessons stopped.
- Is very independent at times and can do most things on her own, but still prefers help from mama/dada sometimes (I think because August still needs help with things, she wants equal attention)
- Going along with the above, will often take initiative to do things she wants to do without asking first (i.e. getting something down from a shelf, getting something from the fridge, etc)
- She is SO big but yet still so little and we couldn’t love her more 💕
