August 2 1/4 Years

August is 2 1/4 years old!

BB46E1A7-85EA-4911-BBBB-7C95E7C082A0

It seems he has been growing and changing in so many ways the last few months, and he is definitely a full-blown toddler now and not so much a baby anymore.

August Lately:

  • He is potty trained! He is currently still wearing diapers for bedtime, but hopefully will be exclusively undies soon.
  • Has started asking “why” after everything you tell him, and then asks “why?” 3 more times at least
  • Has been waking up sometimes in the 6 o’clock hour and declaring “ready to eat breakfast”…luckily this seems to be a phase—he did it for two weeks straight and currently only does it sporadically & will often go back to sleep
  • Has been grinding his teeth, most likely due to molars he’s been working on (1 all the way through, 2 halfway, and 1 just peaking through)
  • Loves looking at bugs outside and getting way down close to them and saying “Hi roly-poly! You good?”
  • His absolute favorite thing to do right now is spray the hose
  • He also loves swinging on the big kid swing at the park
  • Loves water play on a small scale (water table, sprinkler, squirt gun, hose) but not a big fan of the pool/splash pad yet
  • Playing outside for hours ( if there is water involved)
  • Still able to entertain himself for long periods (something he’s always pretty much done)
  • Will sometimes let out a single, blood-curdling scream in public when he’s mad that makes bystanders concerned for their safety
  • Goes along with Scarlett’s adventures more lately—much to Scarlett’s delight. They will play pretty nicely together by themselves for much longer without an argument breaking out
  • Is better able to keep up with Scarlett in conversation (which is the BEST to listen in on). They have their own language it seems and crack themselves up saying their made-up nonsense words
  • Has been picking nose (luckily does not then put into his mouth like Scarlett used to)
  • Has been going through some pickier phases where he says “don’t want that” to everything you give him, although will often eventually eat, even if just a little
  • Gross & fine motor skills noticeably stronger—going up stairs, jumping with both feet, climbing, drawing with crayons, playing catch, etc
  • Can count a small number of objects
  • Loves shrimp, plain Greek yogurt, quesadillas, eggs, cheese, cauliflower, Mac & cheese, spaghetti, grapes, avocado, strawberries, & blueberries
  • One of the most surprising things about him is he does not like pizza???
