August is one and a half years old!
At 18 Months, August:
Weighs/Measures: 24 lbs (47th) 31 inches (15th)
Teeth: 11 (new one halfway through on bottom)
Loves:
- Balls
- Planes (“pean!”)
- Trucks
- Bears & dogs (prefers books with bears in them & if he sees a dog outside he will talk of nothing else until the dog is out of sight)
- Being silly and making mama and dada laugh
- Sliding (by himself—gets mad & attacks if you try to go down with him)
- Climbing
- “Riding on a horsie” song (“oisse!” he says as he climbs on mama’s lap)
- Running around yelling “ahhh!” and going crazy
- Gymboree
- His wubby
Dislikes:
- When sissy doesn’t share and/or takes his toys
- Getting dressed/undressed
- Getting his hair washed
- Getting nose suctioned
- When you cut up his food (only sometimes, and only certain foods)
- When you don’t share what you’re eating
What’s New/Augustisms:
- Can feed himself from a bowl with a spoon
- He says “two!” when he has 2 objects in his hands
- Has his own signature move called “the airplane” where he scrunches his shoulders up to his ears and lifts his arms out behind him and takes off across the room
- Tries to sing along with songs such as ABCs & the alphabet song by the three stooges “Bee-Bi-Bo”—he also can associate songs with things such as “Melmo” (Sesame Street songs) and says “bubble!” When he hears Happy by Pharrell Williams (the song they sometimes play at Gymboree during bubble time)
- Is more opinionated about things such as what he wears (prefers his Nike shoes to any other shoe and got mad the other night when I tried putting a white nightgown on him instead of the “lellow” one) and what he eats (sometimes gets mad if you cut up his food instead of giving it to him whole, for example) and books that we read before bed (climbs off the bed to choose what books he wants—him and Scarlett don’t always agree ..)
- Uses more descriptive words such as hot, dirty, big
- Gives the “stink eye” to people he is unsure about
- Attacks when mad—pinches, claws, bites
- His “in trouble” face he makes when you tell him no no: squints his eyes and makes a sad/happy face (hard to tell if smiling or getting ready to cry)
- Must look out the window before bed to look for the moon and airplane lights in the sky (“moo-n!” “pean!” (plane))
- Has taken after Scarlett and is quite focused on acquiring a “piece!” of bar at all times
- Has very strong listening vocabulary—seems to understand pretty much everything you say to him/tell him to do
- Can say a lot of singular words and is starting to put two word phrases together
- Is down to one nursing session in the morning—I foresee him weaning altogether soon
- Can focus on longer story books
