At 17 months, August:

Weighs/Measures: Checkup next month

Teeth: 10

Words: Too many to list

Loves:

  • Balls
  • Slides (going down and back up them)
  • Climbing
  • Bears
  • Trucks
  • Airplanes
  • Bubbles
  • Still enjoys pushing things around the house even though he can walk on his own now (laundry basket, stroller, etc)
  • Eating!
  • Playing in the water at the splash pad
  • Greeting people and animals he sees when out and about by repeatedly yelling “Hi!” and waving
  • Gymboree
  • Snuggles, hugs, & kisses

Dislikes:

  • Getting teeth brushed
  • Getting dressed/diaper changed
  • When Scarlett takes toys away from him/ doesn’t share
  • Getting nose suctioned
  •  Being away from mama

What’s New:

  • Is walking exclusively! Gave up crawling shortly after turning 16 months
  • Is really good at copying actions, sounds, words,  and facial expressions
  • More oppositional lately—says no more often and will throw short tantrums sometimes when mad where he’ll just lay down on his back and kick his feet (it’s actually pretty cute/funny)
  • Quite a sense of humor—always making us laugh with his silliness
  • Is quite expressive with both his body and face—for example, will shrug his shoulders up to his chin when excited to hand something to you, and makes a variety of facial expressions that always let you know how he’s feeling
  • Has started dancing! Kind of just bounces on the spot, but it’s a start!
  • Says some simple phrases such as “love you”, “night night, Dada”, “bye-bye/hi dog/mama/dada”, “big ball/truck/dog”
  • Mama left him for the first time by himself at the “play lounge” while I took an exercise class—I was super nervous about how he would do but he did great! I think it helped that the lady in charge was very nice, around my age, and has a baby at home too:)
  • Will hum with mama as I rock him before bed and gently pat my arm/shoulder
  • Has a more pronounced mama attachment lately—will cry when I leave and yell “mama!” even when I’m nearby to make sure I’m still there

Snapshots of August’s 17th month:

First time for all of us visiting Big Joel’s Safari! August wasn’t a huge fan of all the big animals trying to get fed by people—and he didn’t really like when mama tried to feed them while holding him:)
