August is 10 months old!

At 10 months, August:

Weighs: Approx. 21 lbs

Measures: Approx. 29 inches

Teeth: 2

Loves:

• Playing ball! He loves to throw it and retrieve it
• Seeing himself in the mirror—he immediately waves to himself when we pass the mirror
• Playing cars with sissy in the hallway
• Playing peekaboo by covering his face with a blanket and waiting for you to pull it off and say “peekaboo!”
• Looking through his picture board books—especially the First 100 Words book
• Broth & banana
• Exploring the world around him—has been venturing out of the playroom lately to see what else this world has to offer
• Babbling nonstop—the B sound is his favorite
• Bubble time at Gymboree
• Musical instruments

Dislikes:

• Getting nose suctioned
• Getting his eye wipes (don’t blame him)
• Getting dressed
• When you take something he wants away from him (Scarlett…)
• Being tired

What’s New:

• Pointing at people and objects
• Gives high fives
• Helping turn pages when reading books and pointing at the pictures
• Pushing up to sitting from all directions—will be sitting up in his crib often when I go to get him now
• Rocking on hands and knees & will crawl a few steps before resuming army crawling
• Pulls up to kneeling and reaches up on high surfaces for objects—has entered the pulling up to standing preliminaries
• Saying more and more sounds that resemble words—attempts to say ball (has pronounced correctly a few times), book (has also pronounced a few times), baby, dog, bye-bye (will wave and say “bye-bye” when finished nursing) in addition to dada, mama (although mostly calls me baba), and hi
• Starting to transition to more finger foods instead of purées—seems to enjoy feeding himself more than spoon fed
• Takes sips of water from a cup with help
• Venturing out of the playroom to see what else is going on & will follow you if you leave
• Increased hand-eye coordination in his ability to throw objects and put a ball through the hole on some of his toys, also starting to do the shape sorter with help
• His blocked tear duct seems to finally be clearing up (thanks to chiropractor visit)

Other Activity:

• Nurses approximately 7x/day
• Is offered 3 meals each day, but often will only eat two
• Takes two naps each day, the first one around 10:30 lasting about an hour (or less if in transit with mama & sissy), and the second around 2pm lasting 2-2.5 hours.
• Sleeps from 8:15pm to around 8:30-9am, still waking 2x (usually around 3:30am & 6:30am (or sometimes around 12am if he hears mama go to bed))
