Scarlett and August are officially Mouseketeers! They had a wonderful first Disney experience and we all can’t wait to go back!
The anticipation leading up to their first time at Disney was half the fun! We did a countdown to Disney chain where each day we would take a ring off and do a Disney-inspired activity, and count how many days left until vacation.
Activities included: write a letter to Mickey Mouse, watch a Disney movie, eat Mickey Mouse pancakes (which Scarlett surprisingly opted out of in favor of mama’s banana muffins), find the Mickey (shown below), open a present from Mickey, look at a map of Disney and pick rides to go on, and listen to Mickey Mouse March.
I think Bunny was just as excited to go on an airplane as she was to see Mickey;) August had a great first plane ride! He took a bottle during takeoff and looked like he was going to doze off, so we switched him into the car seat to sleep but he ended up staying awake and just hanging out contentedly until he finally fell asleep for the last half hour or so of the flight. The landing woke him up and he cried for a few minutes but then was fine. Good job, baby boy!
The flight attendant said goodbye to Scarlett when she came off the plane and said “Have fun, princess” to which Scarlett replied, “Bye-bye, princess!” The flight attendant got a kick out of that:)
Poppy and Max came to pick us up from the airport and take us back to our “Disney House”.
First brother/sissy bathtime!
The next morning it was off to the Animal Kingdom! Scarlett’s face was pure excitement on the tram ride to the park:) She just knew she was on her way to something special.
First up was the Festival of the Lion King—both babies approved! (Although August had to take a milk break towards the end)
Next we stopped to grab a bite to eat and while waiting for our food the babies banged on some drums.
After that we parted ways with grandma and poppy and headed off to the Kilimanjaro Safari.
After the safari we headed back to the house to take a nap and unwind a little bit before venturing back out to go to the Pandora part of Animal Kingdom. I think going back at night was a good idea—everything at Pandora was lit up and so neat looking. We went on the Na’vi River Journey which was really pretty, but I’m glad we had a FastPass as it was a long wait for a pretty short ride.
Then it was Mickey & Minnie pajama time followed by some much-needed rest after such an exciting day!
The next day we set off for the Magic Kingdom to visit with Mickey Mouse and his friends!
First up: Dumbo! 🐘
Next, Dada took Scarlett on the carousel while August stopped for a milk break.
We had fast passes for both Peter Pan and Haunted Mansion, but both rides just happened to not be working when we were supposed to ride…whomp whomp. So we decided to stop for lunch in Liberty Square and luckily things went a bit more smoothly afterwards.
We rode Pirates of the Caribbean and Scarlett was not a really a fan (just ask her about Disney and she’ll tell you “I don’t like the pirates”). She didn’t freak out or anything but held on tight to Dada after being sprayed with water and didn’t let go for the rest of the ride:) (August also did not appreciate the water spraying, but overall didn’t mind the ride).
So next was a decidedly more tot-friendly ride, good old It’s a Small World. Bunny loved it!
Grandma met us as we got off the ride and we visited with her while she waited for Max and poppy to get finished with a ride. Hopefully next time we can coordinate our fast passes!
After saying goodbye to grandma, poppy, & max again, we headed over to The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Both babies also seemed to enjoy this one🐻🍯

After Pooh we made a pit stop at a gift shop where Scarlett picked out a Sleeping Beauty doll, and then decided to try the 4-D Mickey’s Philharmagic show. Scarlett loved it, August hated it. He was asleep when the show started and then was abruptly woken up by VERY loud noises, air puffing at him, and then water spraying on him was the last straw:)
It was almost 5:00pm so we decided to do one more ride and then call it quits. There was a FastPass for the Mad Tea Party ride, so dada stayed with August while mama and Scarlett rode the teacups.
