Scarlett Rose is two and a half years old!
At 2.5 years, Scarlett:
Weighs: 29.5 lbs (62%)
Measures: 3 feet (72%)
Loves:
- Bear— he has stood the test of time as her favorite
- Bab (aka Babbit the Rabbit)
- Books—she loves going to the library or bookstore to get new stories to read. A few current favorites: All Sandra Boynton books especially Hippos Go Berserk, The Going to Bed Book, Pajama Time, and The Bunny Rabbit Show, The Gruffalo, Room On the Broom, Olivia
- Food: bananas, anything with rice, PBJ, avocado, most fruit & veggies (although she’s a bit more picky now), yogurt, “piece of bar”, shrimp, cheese, blueberries, pretty much all breakfast food
- Looking at pictures and videos of herself on mama & dada’s phone
- Dumbo
- Songs: Sugar Sugar, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Lion Sleeps Tonight, Goodnight Sweetheart, I Wonder (from Sleeping Beauty), Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Come Go With Me, Earth Angel
- Doing “tivities” (activities)
- Playing at the park
- Helping mama bake
- When other little girls engage with her to play
- Watching and observing people
- Playing and helping with her baby brother
- Calling family on FaceTime
- Going for walks, preferably with her snack cup
- Choo-choo rides in the laundry basket (and laundry baskets in general)
Dislikes:
- When mama has to tend to August right after she wakes up from nap (often her neediest time of day and sometimes wakes up cranky)
- When you can’t pick her up when she wants to be picked up
- Large groups of rowdy kids—prefers one-on-one play and interaction
- Cleanup time
- Being told what to do
- Being hungry
What’s New:
- Can dress herself now and has therefore taken to randomly changing her clothes throughout the day
- Her bottom two-year molars recently erupted, first the left side and the right is poking through
- Can somewhat blow her nose
- Can almost count to 20, but sometimes skips a few:)
- Is learning to count objects up to 10, but still working on pointing to each object once as she counts
- Is starting to talk about the books she reads more and can answer simple comprehension questions and ask questions about her reading
- Has entered the phase of needing all the things at bedtime (drink of water, go potty, turn fan on, brush my hair, blow my nose, doesn’t want meow in her crib, etc)
- Can climb stairs/ladders at the park independently
- Stopped wearing a diaper at night a few weeks after we potty-trained her back in September
- Increasingly particular about what she wears/eats, etc
A few Scarlettisms: (I’m sure I will add to this list as she reminds me of stuff—hard to think of all her quirks off the top of my head!)
“Dada/Mama pick you up” (which means pick me up)
”I wanna go see ___”
“Don’t get me poopoo on me Mickey Mouse!” (this is what she says to her Minnie Mouse undies)
”What are those kids doing over there?” She asks about kids and adults alike
“It’s kind of very hot”
Says “tutti frutti oh rudy” after tooting
Saying she wants something and doesn’t want it in the same breath “I want it! I don’t want it!”
A few fav &/or funny phrases: “just in case”, “real kick (quick)”, “or sumpin (something)”, “Thanks, Kisten (Kristen)”
Crying for no reason and then laughing two seconds later
Her story about the glass breaking at the park and the man coming to clean it up
Refers to most events as happening “yesterday”
Scolds Buddy like mama & dada sometimes do (“Move it Buddy!” “Quiet Buddy!” “No Buddy!”)
How loving and helpful she is with her baby brother—she brings him his toys and always runs to get his ellie when he’s sad, and loves to talk to him and play with him. She has her jealous moments, but is mostly the best big sissy. She gets excited when she hears him wake up from his morning nap and rushes in to talk to him:)
She is pretty cautious and patient for a two year old—she always lets other kids go before her (for example, she always waits to get her stamps last at Gymboree) and if there are a bunch of kids doing an activity at once, she’ll wait until it calms down before joining in.
