Happy 2nd Birthday, Scarlett Rose
May 4, 2017
Somehow, my baby girl is two years old. And just when we think we couldn’t possibly love you any more, somehow we do…everyday.
At 2, you:
Light up every room you walk into. You have more energy than mama and dada combined, yet you have a peaceful calmness about you, too. You are already a wonderful big sissy who is incredibly loving and patient with your baby brother; “That’s ok, baby” you say, giving him a soft kiss on the head and gently rubbing his arm. You have the BEST sense of humor and help fill our daily life with laughter. Your sweet voice calling a friendly “hi” can melt even the grumpiest stranger at the store. You love nanas, booboos (blueberries), strawbees, “piece of bard”(bar), ragins (raisins), and mago (mango). You hear the sound of a wrapper being unwrapped from the opposite end of the house, and a loud pitter-patter can be heard as you come running for a “piece of bard”. When you have a cute outfit on you rush to show Dada, giggling and declaring “cute!”. You have always loved music and little makes you happier than singing and dancing to your current favorite songs (Twist and Shout has been a favorite for the past few months, finally replacing Woolly Bully and Barbara Ann). Speaking of dancing, you have your own signature dance moves: twisty hands and the chicken wing. Stuffed animals are your favorite and you have quite the entourage, but Bear and Bab hold a special place in your heart. You’re still a great eater, breakfast being your favorite meal; You love to tell Mama all about what you ate, asking and answering your own questions “Waffles! What else? Dogi (yogurt)! What else? Nanas! What else? Booboos…no booboos“(meaning we didn’t have any blueberries left). You crave affection and love being held and getting kissies and huggies, and mama and dada are more than happy to oblige (even when it’s been an hour since putting you to bed and you’re still calling for more huggies, “Mama/Dada give you huggie!”.  You love being outside and could “wing” (swing) and go down the slide at the park all day long. You love going to Gymboree and you are the teacher’s pet, doing your own thing during circle time but then running to sit in Miss Linda’s lap when you hear “Everyone find a lap to ride, lap to ride, lap to ride…“. You refer to yourself as Sweetie Pie (“Thanks, sweetie pie!” you say after helping mama with something), Bunny Rose, Funnay Bunnay, and you say “Bunnaaay!” (as mama/dada might say) after you get your way even though you shouldn’t have. You give play-by-plays of your daily comings and goings, often recapping events as they are happening and telling what comes next (i.e. “Dada change your dipe, flush your poopoo, go play a bit, ok?). You can be very stinky at times (i.e. getting into something that we just got done telling you not to) but then you turn around and do something heart-meltingly sweet the very next moment. You are incredibly bright and seem to remember everything–you can literally see the cogs and gears spinning as you contemplate a new concept. You are independent and enjoy making your own decisions. You have the wildness of childhood but also a quiet contemplativeness about you. You show excitement with your entire body, running to greet mama or dada arms waving, eyes smiling. You love your family with your whole heart and we are so lucky to feel such a love. You amaze us every single day and we still can’t believe that you’re ours. You seem too good to be true, but that’s just you.
