Scarlett is eighteen months old!

image

Weighs/Measures: 23 lbs (54%ile) 32.5 inches (71%ile)

Teeth: 12 + 4 newbies peeking through

Loves:

  • Bear
  • Rocks–loves looking for rocks outside and examining dada’s rock collection
  • The moon–we look for it every night before bed
  • Eating–still has quite the appetite!
  • Books–recent favorites: Go Dog, Go!, Spooky House, Not the Hippopotamus, I Prayed For You, Corduroy, Saggy Baggy Elephant
  • Listening to songs on YouTube (Elmo’s Song, Good Ship Lollipop, Wooly Bully, etc)
  • Bathtime
  • Being bounced
  • Being silly & making mama and dada laugh
  • Helping the teacher at Gymboree
  • Dancing to music–which consists mostly of stomping her feet and waving her arms
  • Walking Buddy during walks (“Walk! Walk!” she says until we let her hold his leash)
  • Playing hide and seek with dada and going into her hiding spot in the corner by her changing table
  • Rocking on her sheep rocker

Dislikes:

  • When you don’t share what you’re eating/drinking with her
  • Getting changed
  • When mama leaves the room
  • When Bear is not in her sight
  • Socks

What’s New:

  • Fell in love with her first stuffed animal, Bear–she is completely obsessed!
  • Trying to open the refrigerator to get a “nack” and getting mad when she doesn’t get anything
  • Started hitting when angry/frustrated (very lightly and not meant to hurt, shows remorse often afterwards)–when she first started she was doing it a lot for a few days, has tapered off & only does a few times each week now
  • Can repeat pretty much any word you say to her–recited the whole alphabet with dada the other day:)
  • Understands the concepts of hot and cold (will use the word hot/cold to describe food i.e. cold yogurt, hot waffle and objects i.e. hot slide at the park, cold refrigerator). Also understands and can use other descriptive words such as big, little, sharp, up, down, light, dark, clean, dirty, etc.
  • Knows most of her colors
  • Will switch between wanting mama or wanting dada, as opposed to her previous mama attachment
  • Can use a spoon independently but continues to work on improving her technique:)
  • Officially stopped nursing on October 15–the day we found out Scarlett’s getting a baby brother!
  • Since kicking her early morning milk habit, she now sleeps from approximately 8:30pm-8:30am and takes one afternoon nap around 2 (earlier if she wakes up a little earlier in the morning) lasting around 2-3 hours.

A Few Scarlettisms:

  • Carrying Bear (aka Beayo, Bee, or Beh) wherever she goes; Saying “Beayo, aww Beayo” then hugging to face and kissing him; Will call for bear when not there & likes to be carried (“Up!”) to go find him; When first seeing you in morning/after nap etc., immediately says “Beayo!” for you to first acknowledge Bear before greeting her.
  • Things Bunny must do everyday: Unplug mama’s phone charger and take apart, giving mama the plug part because mama tells her it’s dangerous; turn off the air filter; throw 3-10 of mama’s shirts on the floor from drawer, sometimes choosing to wear 2-3 of said shirts to later be scattered throughout house; take anything in mama’s purse out of purse and scatter throughout house; if knobs are on stereo system, remove again and hide immediately
  • Not wanting to leave crib after nap but getting mad if you leave the room
  • Associating songs with 1 or 2 words & pointing to phone for me to play it. A few of her current favorites: “Hey” for What Did the Bluejay Say (Shirley Temple), “Lala” for Elmo’s Song, “Bully Bully” for Wooly Bully, “Match” for Monster Mash, “Boom Boom”–actual name of a Raffi song, “Mow Mow” for Papa Oom Mow Mow, “Pop” for Good Ship Lollipop, etc.
  • Won’t sit in mama’s lap at Gymboree but loves sitting in  teacher’s lap and being the teacher’s helper
