At 17 months, Scarlett:

Weighs/Measures: Find out next month

Teeth: 12

Words: Too many to list!

Loves:

  • Eating! Still eats pretty much everything, even some surprising things like pickles, olives, mustard, and apple cider vinegar.
  • Books
  • Being silly! Loves to make mama and dada laugh.
  • Being tickled–or “tickies” as mama calls it–will grab your hand to make you continue to tickle her once you’ve started.
  • Being bounced
  • Animals! Loves going to see the ducks and geese at the park, and loved her most recent visit to Suson Park to see the farm animals.
  • Going on adventures–most recently went apple picking with grandma & grandpa and she loved it! Especially because she got to eat the apples!

Dislikes:

  • Being inside all day
  • When you eat something in front of her and don’t share
  • Getting diaper changed
  • When you take away something she shouldn’t be playing with

What’s New:

  • Whenever asked a question, holds up hands in an “I don’t know” gesture and babbles in a concerned questioning tone.
  • Walking backwards
  • Saying more simple sentences like “here you go”, “who dat?”, “tank you”, “good job”, etc.
  • Dancing by stomping her feet and waving her arms–will do on command
  • “Reading” to mama–will babble with expression and point to the pictures, and then turn the page to “read” the next one.
  • Often when she falls or bumps into something, pretends to be hurt and rubs the area (oftentimes not the actual area that was bumped) and says “oh oh oh” until she gets a hug/kiss. Also waves to and kisses her own visible boo-boos in a very concerned manner. Will also sometimes accidentally knock into mama or dada with something and then act like she is the one who got hurt.
  • Increased opposition–takes awhile to get her to do some things, as she’ll walk away and say no (usually during naptime or when we’re going for a walk).
  • More small outbursts here and there when she doesn’t get her way–they are short-lived and she is usually easy to distract away from being angry.
  • Repeats words that mama and dada say–and will sometimes pick a word out of a sentence that we do NOT want her to say..need to be more careful.

A few snapshots of Scarlett’s 17th month:

Ooohhh a “Mystery Box”! (Mama put a bunch of random things in a shoe box for her to dig through, with the suspicion that she might enjoy such an activity. Mama was correct.)image image image

Last day at the splash pad before it closed for the year! We almost had the place all to ourselves. image image

“Now that everything is out of the box, I might as well find a use for it.”
