Scarlett Rose is sixteen months old!
At 16 months, Scarlett…
Weighs/Measures: next update at 18-month checkup
Teeth: 8 + 4 molars halfway through
Words: mama, dada, dog, Buddy, book/books/bookie, hi, bye, bib, no, yay, whoa, wow, hey, wee, poo poo, pee pee, get (says to Buddy), bug, ball, baby, bow, eye, pig, who who (owl), key, beh (bear), boy, aww, pool, bubby (bubble), low (love), boog (booger), eww, ba (bath), mo (more), no mo (no more), nana (banana), booboo (blueberry), ma (milk), baa (sheep), neigh (horse), bee, meow (cat), mou (mouse), duck, moo (cow), chee (cheese), wawa (water/watermelon), nigh-nigh (night-night), moo (moon), tuck (truck), no (nose), mou (mouth), weh (wet), dow (down), belba (bellybutton), mmm (yum), melmo (Elmo), ah ah (monkey)—I’m sure there’s more, but it’s hard to remember them all!
Loves:
- Books! The majority of the time in her playroom is spent reading/looking at books. Current favorites include: 100 First Animals Lift-the-Flap book, Elmo’s Big Lift-and-Look book, I Am A Bunny (she loves Nicholas), Brown Bear Brown Bear, Goodnight Moon (always been a favorite, but especially loves finding the mouse on each page currently), My Dog Spot (especially the page with a cat on it!), The Pokey Little Puppy
- Putting on Mama’s clothes and purse
- Cats & sheep–immediately points out cats and sheep in her books and says “baa” or “meow” fifty times and gives them a kiss
- Her Mama! She loves her Dada too, but still has a bit of a Mama attachment
- Being outside
- Going for walks (usually–sometimes she protests being in her stroller at the park)
- Other kids (“babies” as she calls kids of all ages)
- Foods: watermelon, blueberries, banana, homemade mini muffins, cheese, bunny bites (broccoli, cauliflower, quinoa, cheddar), fish, broccoli, avocado (will sometimes eat a whole one), smoothies
- Giving kissies (often including a “mwah!”)
- Knocking things down, taking things apart
- Taking clothes out of drawers/hamper
Dislikes:
- Getting teeth brushed
- Getting hair washed (understandably since she won’t tilt her head back, so water sometimes gets in her eyes)
- Getting diaper changed
- When Mama leaves the room (she is fine 2 seconds later)
- Being blocked out of the kitchen with the gate
- Staying inside all day
- Foods: pasta, meat (will barely eat besides chicken), currently doesn’t really care for some veggies she used to love like carrots, beets, and sometimes sweet potato
What’s New:
- Showing a bit more opposition–says “no” often when you ask her to do something, walks away, turns away from you, etc.
- If she hurts herself, she rubs area that got hurt and says “ah-ah-ah”
- Recognizes familiar songs as soon as they come on and will say/sing something from the song (i.e. “banana!” for Apples & Bananas)
- Her recent favorite facial expression is opening her mouth as wide as it will go, closing her eyes, and tilting her head back
- Will voluntarily sit in Mama and Dada’s lap or lay down with us to read books (something she hasn’t done since she became mobile). Hooray!
- Obsession with cats (may have started because Mama takes her to see the cats at PetSmart while Dada is checking out at the grocery store)
- Holding hands with Dada during walks
- Not necessarily new this month, but has certain things she has to do everyday such as remove music stand from piano, unplug phone charger, remove knobs from tv box, remove books from bookshelf–just to name a few:)

Hi, Dada! Mwah!
Our Scarlett Rose:)
Wearing a purse like Mama.
Spitting water on herself because she’s a silly bunny.
Posing in my cat shirt.
Ripping the paper off the back of the mirror.
Hi, Bunny!
Lying with Dada to read in the morning.
Picking flowers with Liam who came to visit over Labor Day weekend.

Mama is not quite sure what was going on here–all she knows is that Dada was in charge in this moment.
