38 Weeks

Monday, January 25, 2016

I am 38 weeks old today!

This week I…

  • Started pushing myself up to sitting on my own
  • Started army crawling longer distances without stopping
  • Starting to say more words that resemble actual words (“gog” sounds like dog, “book”, “ehdo” sounds like hello)
  • Attended my first play group at Gymboree!
  • Saw my first snow!

Pictures from my week:

I woke up Tuesday night to my first snow!

The next morning I took a closer look

I love the grocery store! (especially Whole Foods)

Good morning!

I don’t know how to stack my stacking cups yet, but I still have tons of fun with them!

Speaking of cups, I love stealing sips from mommy and daddy!

Waiting for class to start:)

Getting warmed up with some ball fun! Scarlett met two new friends, Skylar and Catherine.

Hey what’s that? Scarlett was very intrigued by the drum.

Scarlett’s First Snow

Wednesday, January 21, 2016

Bunny woke up a few hours after she went to sleep, so mommy showed her the snow that had fallen while she slept. “It is not dream snow, it is real snow!” Mommy said, quoting one of Bunny’s stories, Dream Snow by Eric Carle.

The next morning, Scarlett took a closer look (and taste, of course).

We didn’t go out and play today, but we’re hoping it snows again this winter so our little snow bunny can really go see what that white stuff is all about!

37 Weeks

Monday, January 16, 2016

I am 37 weeks old today!

This week I…

  • Started army crawling forward!
  • Suddenly have a daddy aversion/mama attachment
  • Have been giving mommy and daddy [open-mouth] kissies!
  • Smack my lips like a little goldfishy when taking a break during feedings
  • Yelling “ahh!” (or other single syllable sound) and waiting for mama or dada to echo me or just pay attention to me
  • Consistently saying “mama” when I want to be fed
  • Mama and me stayed at grandma and grandpa’s house for 3 days while daddy was out of town/the cabinets were being painted–it was a nice long visit!

Pictures from my week:

36 Weeks

Monday, January 11, 2016

I am 36 weeks old today!

This week I…

  • Have been “singing” along when being sung to or listening to my baby tunes
  • Still baby jibberishing nonstop (including speaking in Parseltongue)
  • Continue to increase ability to interact during stories/playtime (help lift the flaps when reading Dear Zoo, pets the bunny & plays peekaboo with Paul during Pat the Bunny, etc)

Pictures from the week:

Visiting with grandma to cheer her up after her good friend passed away:(

Beet face (surprisingly I like beets)

Just hanging out in my dipes (don’t get to do this nearly as often as when it was warm out)

Mommy moved my playpen by the window so I could see the big snowflakes that were falling when we woke up on Saturday (I was very intrigued by them)

First time trying chicken (mommy mixed it with broccoli so I would eat it)

Celebrating grandpa’s birthday (yet I was the one opening presents–thanks for my caterpillar aunt Lindsey!)

Eight Months

Monday, January 4, 2015

Scarlett is 8 months old!

scarlett8months4scarlett8months2scarlett8months5scarlett8months3

At 8 months, Scarlett:

Weighs/Measures: Won’t know until 9-month checkup

Teeth: 2

Loves:

  • Exploring the world around her by crab crawling backwards, rolling, grabbing for everything, and looking all around at all the sights when we go on outings
  • Being carried when out and about as opposed to car seat or other carrier
  • Foods: most veggies, yogurt, broccoli, butternut squash
  • Reading books (and trying to chew on them)
  • Singing and dancing with mama
  • Laughing, smiling, giggling when mama and daddy are silly
  • Being around people (and will fight going to sleep if she knows there’s company–baby FOMO:)

Dislikes:

  • Foods: most fruit unless mixed with yogurt, green beans unless mixed with something else, egg yolk (seemed to like them but threw up last time, so monitoring for possible allergy)
  • Being left alone in exersaucer or playpen without mommy/daddy interaction for longer than 5-10 minutes
  • Has recently not liked getting diaper changed (used to love it)
  • Getting face wiped off after meals

What’s New:

  • Crab crawling backwards
  • Consistently saying “mama” when she wants mama to hold her or feed her (first did this at 6 months, but sporadically)
  • Actively seeking out objects she wants by lunging for them, rolling, backwards crawling, etc
  • Gets up on hands and knees more often
  • Sitting without support
  • Almost pushing up to sitting independently
  • Starting to reach for furniture to pull up on
  • Clapping
  • Motorboat sound with mouth
  • “Talking” nonstop in baby jibberish–has entire conversations with herself and anyone who is listening
  • Gets upset when you take an object she is currently enjoying away (especially her banana toothbrush when bathtime is over)
  • Imitating actions and sounds that mama or dada does (i.e. clapping, making motorboat sound, hitting blocks together, etc)
  • Interacting during books/songs (clapping when we find Ellie in “Where’s Ellie?”, copying mama during “Pat the Bunny” and starting to during itsy bitsy spider and patty cake
  • New foods this month: yogurt, blueberries, raspberries, potato/spinach/garlic, egg yolk, broccoli, butternut squash, eggplant, lentils, green beans, beets
  • Will “fake cry” for attention
  • Responds to a firm “no” when crabbing for no reason or doing something she shouldn’t (like chewing on books)

Other Activity:

  • Still nursing 7-8 times a day, but for shorter periods
  • Sleeps from approximately 7:30-8pm to 9:30am, has been waking 1-2 times to nurse, still goes right back down after being fed/diaper change
  • Naps have been inconsistent lately–sometimes will take two short naps, one short and one long, or just one long–depends on the day and if any outings interrupt naptime

Nicknames:

  • Bunny
  • Chuub/Chuuby
  • Who/baby who/who who
  • Mama’s baby girl
  • Cherub
  • Pumpkin
  • Rosey posey puddin pie

8-month photo shoot outtakes:

When you press me to your heart

I’m in a world apart

A world where roses bloom

And when you speak, angels sing from above

Everyday words seem to turn into love songs

Give your heart and soul to me

And life will always be

La vie en rose

~From the English translation of La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf
