Scarlett is six months old!
At 6 months, Scarlett:
Weighs: 17 lbs 10 oz
Measures: 26.8 inches
Loves:
- Rolling
- Laughing when Mama and Dada are being silly
- Smiling when she sees Mama and Dada
- Music (listening during playtime/dancing with mama/calming when upset)
- Being held
- When Dada gets her tummy
- Blowing bubbles
- Grabbing faces
- Patting your shoulder when holding her
- Bathtime
- Walks in baby carrier or stroller
- Getting diaper changed
- Kicking her chubby legs
- Sophie the Giraffe and Wubbanub elephant
Dislikes:
- Being woken up by Fedex ringing the doorbell/Buddy barking at Fedex
- Getting dressed (especially at bedtime)
- Being in one spot for too long (she’s a baby on the move, after all)
- Being sleepy
- Sore gummies (I predict a tooth very soon!)
What’s New:
- First taste of solid food this week–avocado!
- A little bit of separation anxiety–will sometimes protest now when going down for naps, bedtime, or being put down to play (usually short-lived)
- Sleeping in crib most nights (transitions to bassinet after early morning feeding)
- Babbling is starting to resemble words like “mama” and “dada”
- Can sit upright without support for a few seconds
- Doesn’t mind being on tummy anymore–has even rolled onto tummy at night a few times
- Doesn’t enjoy playmat as much, too confining
Other Activity:
- Still nurses an average of 8x/day–short feeds throughout the day and longer feeds at night
- Goes to bed between 8-9pm, but takes awhile to settle down when in her crib
- Sleeps in nursery until around 5am, then nurses/diaper change, and goes back to sleep in bassinet until around 8:30-9:30am
Nicknames:
- Bunny
- Shortnin
- Mama’s Baby Girl
- Chuub
- Pumpkin
- Who/Baby Who/Who Who/Whooie
- Poppy (b/c of the Popeye face she makes)
- Sweetie Poo/Sweetie
A few Scarlettisms that Mommy & Daddy love:
- Grabbing mama’s face while nursing and stopping to look up at mama’s face in wonder and smile
- Tickling mama’s side with her chubby legs while nursing
- Looking away when you go to give her a kiss while someone else is holding her
- Blowing “bubbies”
- Kicking her chubby legs during diaper changes or when excited
- Straigtening her legs and pointing her toys when excited
- Her grizzly bear sound
- Throwing her arms up when startled (something she has done since birth)
- Singing/talking/squealing to herself upon waking in the morning (often accompanied by toots)
- Being calm as a lamb while dancing with Mommy in the living room
- Rolling clear off her play mat when you turn away for one second
- Watching Buddy with curiosity/apprehension
- Raising her head to look at you when laying on your chest
- Lifting up her legs in a reverse crunch (even when sleeping)
- Playing with her toes
- Flashing the biggest, gummiest smile of pure joy when she first sees your face in the morning
Six month photoshoot outtakes:
**One of Scarlett and Mama’s favorite songs to dance to (Mama listened to this song while she was pregnant on the way to work to help distract her from the morning sickness:-)**
“Stubborn Love”
by The Lumineers
Make you think she means it this time
She’ll tear a hole in you, the one you can’t repair
But I still love her, I don’t really care When we were young, oh, oh, we did enough
When it got cold, ooh, ooh, we bundled up
I can’t be told, ah, ah, it can’t be done It’s better to feel pain, than nothing at all
The opposite of love’s indifference
So pay attention now, I’m standing on your porch screaming out
And I won’t leave until you come downstairs
So keep your head up, keep your love
Keep your head up, my love [x2]
Keep your head up, keep your love
And I don’t blame you dear for running like you did all these years
I would do the same, you’d best believe
And the highway signs say we’re close but I don’t read those things anymore
I never trusted my own eyes
When we were young oh, oh, we did enough
When it got cold, ooh, ooh we bundled up
I can’t be told, ah, ah, it can’t be done
So keep your head up, keep your love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, keep your love
Head up, love
Head up, love
Head up, love
Head up, love
