Today was my birthday!
I came into the world with a bang on May 4th, 2015 at 10:25am. Daddy cut my cord and then I was placed on Mommy’s chest skin-to-skin to help me feel safe and loved as I made my transition from the womb to the world. I even tried out nursing for the first time–I was a natural!
I got to meet my Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Max for the first time.
Eventually a nurse took me for awhile so she could listen to my heartbeat, weigh and measure me, and take my footprints.
Then I got my first bath! I didn’t really like it, but Daddy stayed by my side so I knew everything was alright.
All cleaned up and dressed in my very first outfit.
Then Daddy FINALLY got to hold me for the first time!
Shortly after that, we were moved to a room in the Mother-Baby Unit so we could relax and spend some time as a family (aside from many visits from the nurses). Mom and Dad had classical music playing for me all day while I napped and cuddled with them.
Visitors on My First Day:
- Aunt Kelly and my cousins Molly and Colin
- Aunt Jessica, Greg, and cousin Liam
- Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Max, and Aunt Lindsey came again that evening too
My First Night:
The nurse came in on and off throughout the night to check on me and mom but other than that I slept really well. I nursed before bed around 11:30pm, and then woke up around 1:45am to nurse, and then I slept straight through to 6:30am.
Nursing:
I am a natural! I nursed between 20-45 minutes each time and I didn’t have any trouble latching on.
Things Mom and Dad Love About Me Already:
- The chirping sound I make that sounds like a little chicklet
- The way my breath smelled sweet like candy/cantaloupe when I was born
- My big, bright, beautiful blue eyes that already look around so alertly
- My baby smell
- How I’m a hungry bear and had no problems with latching on
- How cute, happy, and absolutely perfect I am
- EVERYTHING

Today I turned one day old!
Just waking up
I woke up very hungry and ready for Mommy to feed me.
Sorry, I just look so cute when I’m nursing!
Today was full of checkups: I had my hearing tested (which I passed with flying colors!), had a blood test, and Dr. Nicastro came to visit with me. So far I am a very healthy girl!
Visitors Today:
- Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Max, Aunt Lindsey, Aunt Jessica, Greg, and Liam
- Uncle Matt and Molly
- Mommy’s coworkers: Kristin, Becca, and Amy
Around 6:30, Dr. Meadows (the doctor that was going to be there for my birth if I hadn’t come so fast!) came in to check on us and tell us that we could leave today if we wanted, she just had to go follow up with the nurses. This was very good news for Mommy & Daddy–they couldn’t wait to bring me home!
It took awhile for the nurses to get confirmation from Dr. Nicastro to let us leave, but finally around 9:00 after following the checkout protocols, we were able to leave!
Ready to go home!
We arrived home around 10:25pm (similar to the time I was born, but p.m.) and Mommy and Daddy were so happy and excited to start our new life as a family of three:)
My first night in my bassinet. Goodnight!

I’m 2 days old today!
I had a great first night at home. I nursed before bed around 12:00am, then again at 2:20am, 5:00am, and then I slept until almost 8:00. Sleepy baby!
Good morning!
Morning snuggles with Mommy and Daddy.
First Doctor Appointment
We headed out at 1:00pm for my first doctor appointment with Dr. Shaw.
Dr. Shaw was very gentle with me. My weight was 7 lbs. 4 oz., which was only 3 oz. less than my birth weight. Dr. Shaw said my weight exceeds expectations, as many babies lose up to 10% of their birth weight in the first few days. I had no signs of jaundice and my heart and lungs sounded nice and strong. Dr. Shaw said I’m a healthy girl!
Back at home I tried out the Mamaroo for the first time for just a few minutes. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet–maybe when I’m a little bit older.
A little later, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Max and Kristy, and Aunt Jessica, Greg, and Liam stopped by for a visit.
And I got to meet my older brother, Buddy!
It was a great first day at home!

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mommy! I am the best gift she has ever received and she feels incredibly blessed to be my Mommy.
Today I am 6 days old!
Resting up for our first family walk!
First time trying out my new stroller!
It was hot and humid during our first walk but I did really good (I slept through most of it:)
Then Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Lindsey, and Uncle Max came over for lunch to celebrate Mother’s Day.
I am so lucky to have a family that loves me so much!
Dear Scarlett,
We are so blessed to call you our daughter. You are perfect in every way and we love you so much! Your first week was the best week of our lives and we know there are so many more wonderful weeks to come with you, little one.
She’s got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I’d stare too long
I’d probably break down and cry
Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
~Guns ‘N Roses
Lovely, lovely, beautiful! Happiness and blessings all around 🙂
